Narrative Editor

Dontnod
2021 - 2024

I worked on every Dontnod's projects as an editor and narrative coordinator.

I solved problems on narrative design and writing issues to keep the experience relevant and consistent. With producers, writers and creative directors, I reviewed each milestone, analyse them and created feedback to keep the project appealing, consistent and in harmony with the creative vision of the team and the studio. Working with a publisher is a truly unique experience that has given me an overview of the market, gamers' expectations and of the entire video game production chain.

  • Reviewing the narrative on 7 projects.

  • Identifying issues and inconsistencies between every narrative elements.

  • Writing clear feedback and suggestions about these issues to offer constructive criticism.

  • Guiding core teams to resolve these concerning points.

  • Coordinating publishing, marketing, narrative and cross-functional teams to ensure constant communication during production.

  • Organizing lore documentation updates.

  • Holding team meetings to discuss progress, how to handle issues, pitch new ideas, analyse references...

  • Adapting my work according to feedback from cross-departmental teams, gameplay changes, marketing...

I worked on:

  • Giving perspective to moral choices on Gerda: A flame in winter. A solution was to rework a specific character from a specific faction, to give players more info about why he does the things he does. With more empathy for this character, the whole design became efficient.

  • Rewriting Harmony: the fall or reverie. First drafts of the game lacked a consistent plot. Characters were redundant or not serving the themes. Solution was to work on characters' needs and wants to make moral variations on the themes. Then the plot was changed to answer these variations and oppose them.

  • Adjusting the link between lore, environmental storytelling and themes for Jusant. Solution was to redefine the creative pillars of the game and the message creative directors wanted to convey.

  • Creating empathetic characters for Lost Records: Bloom & Rage, and guaranteeing
a coherent, mysterious storyline with an original structure.

  • Smoothing the plot and pace of The lonesome Guild. With many characters serving the story, the themes (and the gameplay), clarity was essential to make sure the message was comprehensible.

  • Shaping the themes and plot for Koira without a single word.

  • Other upcoming projects.
